And now for something completely off grid and different: AFRICA’S ULTIMATE RAINFOREST SAFARI
March 14, 2024
If you think you know Africa, come to the Congo for a perspective-altering experience. Here, your mind is blown away by the sheer vastness of the Congo Basin as your lungs are filled by the freshest air in the world.
Amidst rainforests, savannahs, rivers, mineral-rich baïs and swamps, you undertake an epic adventure of gorilla-tracking, game drives, boating, kayaking, forest walking, and river-wading to discover rare and endangered species.
The Key attraction in the Odzala-Kokoua National park in the Republic of the Congo is discovering low land gorillas in the most exclusive gorilla trekking destination on earth.
- The park measures some 13,500 square kilometres. Rwanda as a country measures 24,668 square kilometres.
- Annual number of guests visiting this park compared to the Rwandan gorilla area: TEN times fewer and twelve times fewer than in Uganda.
- Only 12 gorilla permits issued per day compared to nearly a 100 in Rwanda and 160 Uganda.
- Only 4 guests per group compared to 8 in Rwanda/Uganda.
- Conservation status is critically endangered with a decline in numbers by 60% in the last 20-25 years. Your visit helps to reverse this.
- Other species include forest elephant, buffalo, bongo, sitatunga, putty-nosed monkeys and rare birds.
- Visit 3 different camps on 7/10/11 day itineraries. Please ask for full details. Prices from £11,950 per person excluding international flights and Brazzaville accommodation if chosen.
- Access via Air France, Rwandan Air, Ethiopian Airlines.
About Brazzaville:
Add on a night or two and stay in this vibrant, safe city. The Congo is NOT the Democratic Republic of Congo whose capital is Kinshasa. But the two capitals do face each other across the river!
- Meet Les Sapeurs: the famous Congolese dandies of the Bacongo district. Enjoy their exuberant style and self-expression as they brighten up the streets of Brazzaville. They lift the spirits of those around them and function as social activists for peaceful protest.
- A bustling city with energetic markets such as the Poto-Poto textile market and Marche Plateau Ville.
- Sacred Heart Cathedral, consecrated in 1894. The oldest cathedral in Central Africa still standing, Sacred Heart is the seat of the Bishop of the Archdiocese of Brazzaville and has been visited by Charles de Gaulle and Pope John Paul I.
- Sometimes referred to as the “Little Paris of Africa”: explore the streets graced by a mixture of colonial and modernistic architecture.
